What is Friendship! Effort! Victory!? – It’s a podcast about the manga and inner workings of Weekly Shonen Jump, with an eye towards accessibility and soothing camp tones.

What is this episode about? – It’s about Akira Amano’s Reborn! (Katekyo Hitman Reborn! to all you picky types), the longest Weekly Shonen Jump series created by a woman in it’s entire history. I mostly look at how it all related to age and gender demographics, but a bit of a scattered real life has made this one a complete free-for-all, taking on whatever angle or thought pops into my mind as I ramble through some fifteen plus minutes of episode.

Why’d it take so long to come out? – Life. But you’re also getting this week’s scheduled Minisode in a few hours, so hang tight!

Where are the show notes? – This joke’s getting thin, isn’t it?

-You can learn more about Reborn and Akira Amano at these two links (1) (2)
-You can also find out a whole bunch about Weekly Shonen Jump here
-Big ups to the Weekly Jump Reader’s Journal, where people discuss the weekly rankings of Jump, and bicker about whether Bleach is actually any good. There’s some posts in the archive about the history of Jump, but I haven’t found them yet.
-Did you know that despite a picture everyone uses as proof (and a few other sources of information), no-one’s still 100% on the gender of Akira Amano? That means that if we’re all wrong this episode is *completely pointless*
-Reborn! is somehow still partially available in bookstores and the like, such as Amazon (UK) (US) (CA) and indeed if  you want the full series there’s also (JP), which is just about to release the 41st volume this week.
-Seriously, if you buy the old stuff and tell Viz, they might finish releasing it, or put it up digitally. It could happen.
THE SHOW’S STILL ON ITUNES! Subscribe or something, why don’t you?
-The schedule for upcoming episodes and minisodes is up at my tumblr, The Despondent, which also has a variety of manga-related posts made semi-frequently, don’t you know.

What is Friendship! Effort! Victory!? – It’s a podcast about the manga and inner workings of Weekly Shonen Jump, with an eye towards accessibility and soothing camp tones.

What is this episode about? – Why, it’s about Koisome Momiji, the twenty-eight week long romance series that follows a young man called Shouta as he fake-dates one or more actresses to help them improve their performances, one of whom is a childhood crush, and the other of whom he’s fallen hopelessly in love with. But will Shouta ever get his true feelings across when they’re in this unimaginable situation? Well, that’s basically what it’s about. Like love, it’s complicated.

Where are the show notes? – Really? Still? Look… Just… Down there, okay?

-Want to learn more about Koisome Momiji? Well…. There’s not really a good place for that. Huh.
-You can also learn a bit about Weekly Shonen Jump over at wikipedia, at least until I find the extensive history hidden away on an old livejournal blog, I swear it really exists.
-I pronounce almost everything in this episode wrong. I blame being ill. Also Koisome Momiji? It means something like Maple leaf-dyed love, I think. don’t hold me to that.
-Want to buy Koisome Momiji? The first two volumes are available in their original language over at Amazon Japan.
-Want to read Koisome Momiji in english? Well I can’t tell you where to do that because that’s naughty. But hey, you could always contact Viz Media and beg them!

What is Friendship! Effort! Victory!? – A podcast about the manga and inner workings of Weekly Shonen Jump, with an eye towards accessibility and soothing camp tones.

What is this episode about? – Yoshihiro Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho, mostly, with a look at what happened in it, the darkness of the ‘Chapter Black’ storyline, and the rumours relating to its demise. Also a bit of an explanation of how editors work with their creators.

Where are the show notes? – Just below this sentence!

-You can learn more about Yoshihiro Togashi and Yu Yu Hakusho over at these two wikipedia links (1)(2)
-All talk of rumours and such are far more spread out than in the previous episode, but the notably factual and entirely scintillating Yoshi-Rin De Pon doujinshi can be found HERE and HERE (with credit to Alicia and her tumblr page, natch)
-As before, you can find out a little bit more about Weekly Shonen Jump over at the wikipedia page, at least until a deeply archived and more detailed history can be recovered from an old livejournal site.
-Yu Yu Hakusho can be bought from any bookstore you can find it in, though my suspicions in the episode are confirmed and early volumes are very much out of print! Still, they’re obtainable at wildly varying prices from Amazon’s marketplace and other online sources (UK) (US) (CA)
-THE PODCAST IS STILL VERY MUCH ON ITUNES, SUBSCRIBE AND REVIEW IF IT TICKLES YOUR FANCY
-Did you know I’m sometimes incredibly wrong? In the episode I make the mistake of saying Dragon Ball ended *before* Yu Yu Hakusho. In reality, it ended ELEVEN MONTHS AFTER IT. Still, one huge error out of all those solid gold other things I say? I’m doing all right so far.

Where are the show notes? – Just… Just down there. Look.

-You can learn more about Assassination Classroom by going to… Well… I guess there’s this fan wiki page, but that’s not too informative.
-You can also learn a bit about Weekly Shonen Jump over at wikipedia, at least until I find the extensive history hidden away on an old livejournal blog, I swear it really exists.
